Where To Buy Yaoi Manga / BL Manga
Where to buy yaoi manga, aka BL manga, online can be a little bit tricky. Especially if you’re not living in Japan. However, it’s possible to enjoy BL manga and support the authors. If you know Japanese it’s super, if you don’t, it’s going to be difficult. But, it’s never too late to learn a new language reading interesting and hot stories. So, where to begin? (I’m going to show you first the options that I frequently use: The Book Depository, Waterstones, Comixology, CDJapan, and Ebook Japan. Then I’ll introduce Renta.)
For those who can only read English, you can enjoy the wonders of The Book Depository [Affiliate Link]. I won’t lie: it’s limited. But they send almost anywhere in the world for free. So, no hassle with the postage. The only downside is that you have to wait for some weeks until you can enjoy yaoi between your hands.
If you cannot find the manga on The Book Depository, then you can try Waterstones [Affiliate Link]. It’s located in the UK, and you have to pay postage. They usually have some stock in manga that has already sold out elsewhere, so keep this one in mind just in case.
For digital yaoi manga, you can find an exciting selection on Comixology. I’ve read titles that weren’t available elsewhere, which is cool. I must admit that browsing can be hard at times.

If you know Japanese, then you have CDJapan [Physical Books] [Digital Books]. I use it for physical books. Although they have lots of digital yaoi manga, they don’t have everything. I guess it’s because of copyright issues. However, their catalog seems interesting enough to try it. (I might do it soon). CDJapan has tons of manga, magazines, figurines, and even clothing. If you choose SAL shipments from Japan, it won’t be as costly, but you’ll have to wait up to a month for it to arrive. I like in the UK, and sometimes I get everything very quickly, and other times I have to wait for a while. It works perfectly, despite the wait.
CDJapan has some digital comics in English. But if you take a closer look to BL, you’ll realize that they’re all in Japanese (or at least the ones I’ve been browsing).
What I use to buy Japanese digital yaoi manga is Ebook Japan. They have tons of BL manga! Depending on the author, you need to wait for a while until you get the digital version. You need to create an account with Yahoo Japan to use their services. They have lots of offers, and tons of free BL comics as well. The app for iPhone is a little bit “old fashioned,” but it’s just fine. I haven’t had many issues with it. Perhaps the only tricky thing is that you have to use a Yahoo Japan account to sign in. However, it’s perfectly okay to pay with credit cards that aren’t Japanese.
Creating an account with Yahoo Japan means that you need to know Japanese since the whole web and process is in Japanese. I created my account many years ago, but if memory doesn’t fail me, they’ll ask you for a Japanese address (or at least the postal code). Once you’ve created this account, then go to Ebook Japan and use it to log in. You’ll need to fill in some details (like your credit card details). And once you’ve spent like an hour with the whole process, you’re ready to go.
And finally, you have Renta in English. I haven’t used it yet, but it looks okay. The only thing that concerns me is that it works with points. You can either buy the chapters or rent them. (You can also buy chapters on Ebook Japan depending on the title. I’m used to buying volumes, so I rather wait for the whole thing since I read pretty fast).
You also can buy digital copies on Sublime. Obviously, you can only find the BL manga that they publish. You can read it online, or you can have a pdf. I haven’t used it at all, mainly because I buy the physical copies through The Book Depository. But, it’s an option if you can’t find a volume they have published in English. Also, you’ll realize that many of the titles they carry are also available on Comixology.
I love to have the original manga between my hands, so, as you might be thinking: I do use CD Japan and The Book Depository a lot. I collect the titles in English and Japanese, depending on availability or how much I can wait for reading the comic. But, space is limited, and so, I also buy digital copies on Ebook Japan and Comixology.
You might be sulking right now: “I just know English.” I have destroyed tons of manga when learning the language. I would write with red pen on the pages. I know, I’m a villain, “how dare you!?” But it was worth it because it helped me learn Japanese. I had tons of fun learning that way (although I doubt that the manga liked being destroyed at all.)
As soon as I hit $400USD/month, I’ll be sharing a lesson per week. Until then, I’ll be sharing once or twice a month. And yes, the textbook will be a BL manga volume. Be aware that you’ll need to buy the manga yourself. [We’re promoting the authors too!] Don’t worry, one volume will last for quite a long while, because teaching grammar, vocabulary, and all the shenanigans do take time.
So there you go, I promoted myself shamelessly again. If you have some time, you can read some of my yaoi reviews, or keep up with the BL guide. Now, check the links above and buy some cool yaoi and enjoy the ride!
