In the last Journey Into Mystery [The Book Depository] we saw how Loki trapped his older version into a raven. He named it Ikol, and he’d forever advise him. However, things aren’t right. Odin ordered all Asgardians to leave Midgard. So, now they’ll create a new Asgard from the ashes of the old one. But, there’s something very wrong with all this. It looks like as the All-Father has gone mad. He’s preparing for war yet again!
Thor tries to get him out of this, but what does Odin do? He emprisons him! Not only that, whoever stands against the orders of One Eye will end up in prison.
Loki knows things are astray. He tries to warn some people, but no one believes him because he’s the reincarnation of the God of Lies, the God of Mischief. But, because Thor is in prison, Loki is quite defendless. In trying to help Thor, he gets into trouble.
Fortunately, Volstagg promised Thor that he would help Loki no matter what. And so, he does. Although his babysitting isn’t exactly friendly. Loki ends up taking care of the poo of Thor’s goats. But in doing so, Volstagg tells Loki a story about the previous Loki and Thor when they were young.
As you know, whatever you tell Loki, he can use later on. Loki wants to help, so he asks Ikol’s advice first. But asking Ikol isn’t exactly open. He usually talks in riddles, or tries to mislead.
That’s why Loki decides to ask the advice of Thor. He sneaks into the prison, and asks Thor what he would do in his position. If he tries to stop Odin, he’ll prevent something bad from happening, but then something even worse will happen. If he lets it happen, then only a bad thing will happen.
So, deciding to do exactly what his big brother would, he embarks into a quest to save Asgard. There’s only a problem: he cannot enlist good souls for the deed. If he were Thor, it would be easy. Since he’s Loki, he’ll have to trick the bad guys into doing what he needs to accomplish. And so, he traps the Hel Hound first. Because a villain’s word is worthless, he needs to trick him to be his pet.
Something is amiss in Asgard, and Loki seems to be on the verge of becoming a great trickster again. However, will his quest transform him into the God of Lies again? Will he change and be good?
Journey Into Mystery [The Book Depository] is a masterpiece. The artwork is amazing, and the story is getting more interesting by the issue. Although I already know what will happen to Loki because I read later comics, this is a delight since we can see Kid Loki starting to grow into a magnificent being.
