Grimm, Scary Fairy Tales
I found a small treasure on Netflix: Grimm. Since I love Fairy Tales, giving this show, a chance was no brainer. Plus, it has so many seasons that it makes the perfect bidging companion for a long time.
A Portland detective called Nick Burkhardt is a descendant of the Brothers Grimm. His aunt is dying, and as his bloodline is getting short, he starts seeing things that are impossible, like wolves and beasts. So, he goes into the Grimm business without knowing much about it. In fact, in the beginning, he has problems to cope with reality.
He makes friends with Monroe, a monster who is supposed to love meat but that is vegetarian. Monroe, his partner, and other beasty friends help him in his quest on making Portland safe. However, things are much complicated than that.
There are some royals who are interested in world domination. Reapers are interested in killing all Grimms. And Nick just wants to do his job: he’s a police officer, and he just wants to do that, regardless of the bad guys being human or beasts.
Sean Renard is his captain. He is a hell of a surprise. So, don’t miss his arc. He’s serious, but he’s super cool too.
Monroe and Rosalee are my favorite characters. They’re the perfect cute couple. I also love Nick and his boss. But, let’s stay with Monroe and Rosalee: furry and perfect together. They give humor to the show.
Nick has a girlfriend; however, he cannot say much to her, or she’ll be in danger. His relationship with her is a drama of epic proportions. You’ll discover that the more and more you watch the show.
Despite their dynamics, I don’t ship them very much. I find Nick to be too active for her. She’s too commonplace for him. Maybe the writers decided to do these two characters like this on purpose. But, I just find her annoying.
Although there are many monsters in the show, and many killings, it isn’t that spooky. It’s a light show, with enough drama, humor, and complexity as to keep on watching it forever. Humans love monster stories, so, no wonder this show has so many seasons.
So, if you want something not-so-spooky to binge, and with some humor, give Grimm a chance. Monroe is funny, and Nick is cute. Plus, the stories are compelling as well. I bet this show is perfect for weekends. If you have nothing to do during the afternoon, watch Grimm and grin!
