Patsy Walker, A.K.A. Hellcat! Vol. 1: Hooked on A Feline
This THORsday comes with Patsy Walker, aka Hellcat [The Book Depository]. If you haven’t read this trade already, do it, because it’s hilarious. The artwork is fresh, funny and inspiring. And the script is simply a masterpiece of laughs. Hellcat is jobless and fighting crime. In the first pages we discover that the She-Hulk has to fire her because of a lack of work. Despite this, she keeps on the positive side of the street and keeps fighting crime. Even if she has to work in retail!
One of the things that I like the most are the explanations with kitty-shaped panels. These are funny, fresh and make the resumes on what’s going on amazingly.
But, perhaps what’s more alluring is Patsy’s character. She’s very positive, a quality that many of us lack when things go south. She has no proper job, she’s homeless, and yet she’s confident about life. Fortunately, she has friends.
Not only she ends up living in the house of a wanna-be villain who turns into hero thanks to her, but she also meets old-time friends. However, one of those doesn’t include Hedy Wolfe who is gaining money from Patsy. All the stories are being published, and she isn’t getting even a penny! All the rights have been transferred because Patsy’s mother signed a contract. But there seems to be something fishy.
Because she’s jobless, she decides to try retail jobs. The first one in a clothing shop. She ends up losing the job because she ends up suiting up and superheroing. Then, she tries in a tattoo parlor. And, of course, she gets a kitty tattoo.
To make things more complicated, Casiolena, an Enchantress wannabe from Asgard is recruiting an army of wannabe villains. She is trying to stop Hellcat because she is trying to create a recruitment agency for Superheroes. So, what do Superheroes when they aren’t saving us? Can they do something else for work?
Fortunately, she has the help of many friends, including Doctor Strange. The funny thing here is how she meets them, interacts with them, and make them crazy!
Despite Casiolea, the big money is on Hedy, who even hires Jessica Jones for very fishy reasons. Why is Hedy so into ruining Patsy Walker’s life?
You’re bound to having a great time with this trade. It’s also an excellent choice for teens. Plus, it’ll make you feel better when times are rough. Who hasn’t worked in retail to meet month’s end? Who hasn’t asked help from a friend?
