Comics THORsday: Gwenpool #3 (+ Giveaway) She meets Doctor Strange!
Today we’re exploring Gwenpool #3 and his first meeting with Doctor Strange! And, yes! There is a digital comic giveaway too. We left Gwenpool confronting Batroc, who thinks she’s useless. M.O.D.O.K. is having problems in finding Gwenpool’s bank information to put her on a payroll. I know, it’s amazing to think that such a villain would want to have everything legal on paper. As it turns out, M.O.D.O.K. hates paying in cash. If Gwenpool doesn’t provide her bank account details, she won’t see a cent!
So, desperate, in search of a side job to have some cash, her custom designer decides to help yer (in exchange of future payment, of course). And that’s how she gets to meet Doctor Strange!
This part is super cool: Doctor Strange helps Gwenpool to have comic book citizenship. I won’t spoil to you the rest of the comic book, but suffice to say, they end up talking a bit about Doctor Strange. You can even see a panel with a cinema featuring the movie. This is one of the best parts of Gwenpool: our reality merges with stories in the comic books. So far, this is the craziest and wittiest out there at the moment.
While many characters still can’t grap what are the superpowers of Gwenpool, she gets to make us nod, panel after panel. Her pink aura and crazy ways make us giggle and smirk every time we read a new panel.
Even if she ends up having comic book citizenship, and even if meeting Doctor Strange must be pretty cool, she has a huge problem: her boss. M.O.D.O.K. wants the best of the best working for him. But what will happen if he discovers Gwenpool’s secret? What will he do if he fins her just to be normal? (Although, to be fair, there’s nothing normal with Gwenpool.)
One of my favorite things of this comic is the cover. Gwenpool is holding an umbrella so that M.O.D.O.K. isn’t that wet because of the rain. They are waiting for a bus to come. It’s a nice remake of one scene of Studio Ghibli’s “My Neighbor Totoro.” In the scene, the kids are waiting along with Totoro under the rain. And the bus they’re waiting is no other than the Catbus! I was delighted when I saw the cover of this comic book. It’s just adorable! (Even if M.O.D.O.K. looks more cranky than ever!)
