Comics THORsday: Spider-Woman Baby Talk #1 + Giveaway
Comics THORsday invites you to read Spider-Woman Baby Talk #1 and to take part in a great giveaway! If you’re not sure about Spider-Woman, share the love below and win a digital copy of Issues #1 & #2. But, hang on a second!? Is Spider-Woman pregnant!? Yes, she is, and very much so! If you’re a mom-to-be, or a mom, and you’d love to start reading comics and find a Superhero very much like you, this is your comic. I’m not a mom myself. However, I found that Spider-Woman pregnant was a very positive message to send out there to many women: being a mom is being a Superhero. You’ll find out that Spider-Woman might be relating to you much more than you might be thinking. She is working and kicking ass while she is pregnant, like many other working moms out there. But, does this comic have anything else to offer you?
We find out that Spider-Woman is a single mother. She wasn’t thinking about getting pregnant. In fact, she wasn’t planning to have any babies at all. And yet, here she is, huge and tired trying to do her best before giving birth. We have no idea of who the father might be, in fact, throughout the whole trade, we won’t find any clues about who the father of the lucky baby might be. Instead, the only thing we find is Iron Man trying to discover the name and failing miserably.

Her Superhero friends throw her a super party, and Carol suggests to her to go this super awesome intergalactic hospital to have the baby. Let’s be honest here: Spider-Woman is a woman of action, and she is getting super bored awaiting the arrival of her baby. And so she decides to take Carol’s advice and have the baby in the alien Hospital.
But as it turns, things go astray, and the hospital is attacked! It is then when we can see how badass this Superhero is: not only she has the baby, she kicks ass seconds after having him!

She can handle the enemy easily. However, she’s having trouble when taking care of her baby. Like many other first moms, she is trying to balance her new life with the baby in the picture. Farewell sleep, farewell whatever free time you had. Plus, as a single mother, she needs to rely on the help of friends a lot.
Talking with Carol, she states: “Carol, I had no idea what this would be like when I was pregnant (…) I don’t have any idea how those people… How do you make yourself walk out the door? I’m not sure I can.” Jess is having trouble in balancing her extreme working life with her new status as a mother. Cops do it, soldiers do it, but, can she?

This trade shows up how difficult it can be for a woman to become a working mom, especially when she is alone and has to rely on friends to make it happen. (Yes, Spider-Woman has a cool bearded nanny). We tend to forget how hard it’s been for our mothers to welcome us into this world and take care of us while also working (be that in a company or taking care of every single thing in the house!)
Comics are for absolutely everyone. And so are Superhero comics. Thanks to this trade you can discover how momma-bears make it happen through the adventures of Spider-Woman. I’m going to continue reading this one. Will you join me?

Oh my gosh, I love this! A pregnant Spider-Woman sounds like such an interesting character, especially with having to deal with the whole single mama thing. Awesome recommendation!
