Loki Year 2016: Thinking about Murder

Loki Year 2016 is exiting! Today we’re going to talk about murder! We are going to read Balder’s fate from the eyes of Loki : Nine Naughty Tales of the Trickster. Here we’re taking a deep look at Mythology. Although Marvel also talked about Balder’s fate in comic book years ago, reality is that it’s a little bit different according to Myth. Blind Hod is the one who is going to kill Balder with mistletoe, the only plant that didn’t swear to Frigg it would harm Balder. In a party, all the Gods try to harm him without any luck, till Hod does the deed. But, who was really behind all this? Loki! The question is not who was behind the whole thing here, but why Loki ended up plotting murder against Balder, the only one who was more or less nice to him.

When Balder died, he ended up in Hela’s realm. Hela is the daughter of Loki, and she is the Queen of Hel. As you’ll read in this tale, she’ll go down to ask for Balder back. However, Hela loves him, and she will not part with him gently. So, she promises Frigg that if all the things above wip for Balder, then she’ll return her son. Everyone and everything cries, except an old lady. Loki in disguise.

The problem here is that Frigg knows it’s Loki, and she swears she’ll revenge. Loki might be jealous, or he might have promised something to Hela in exchange for something else. Whatever the case, there’s something clear: Loki has no place among the Gods. His good deeds will never give him a place among them. So, why should he be good then?
