Welcome to another chapter of the Loki Year 2016! Today we’re going to enjoy THOR The Dark World! This is one of my favorite movies of all times. Not only Loki stole the show, but he also gave away many aspects of his personality. Marvel’s MCU Loki is very multilayered and pretty complicated. During this movie, we can see how Loki enjoys being the center of attention, even if it’s for the wrong reasons. And we also see him lose one of the pillars that made him hole: his mother. This movie needs to be watched along with the cut scenes, specially the one in which Loki is imagining himself as the King of Asgard. Why? Because we can see how damaged he is and how sensitive he really is. He only wanted to be acknowledge, something Asgardians have yet to do.
In this movie we trully discover the Trickster. Loki is the Trickster God, and in THOR The Dark World we can see him comfortable in his role. He is no longer longing to be someone else, but a grown up who knows what he wants and who is comfortable in the role he has. This does not make him free from issues. He still has lots of Daddy issues, and still is in a love-hate relationship with his family. They have hurt his heart, but he will help them as long as he is able to do what he wants. And this is something we can see perfectly in this movie. He is not a villain, he is a Trickster.
We must pay special attention to his clothing and how he behaves while he is in his cell. His fashion is giving us information about his rebellious nature, and his hobbies give us away information about his intellect. He needs to be intellectually challenged, so when he sees a window in which he can play some tricks, he’ll do it without hesitation.
We can also find some parallels with THOR, the first movie; and The Avengers. Pay attention to the fighting scenes. What clues are those giving away? And most importantly, where do you think Odin might be?
