I can just say one thing about American Gods: OMG! The show is so intense that you cannot stop staring even for a little blink. The photography of the show is so breathtaking that it left me gasping. I won’t lie to you, some of the Gods are incredibly spooky. Have you ever seen a Goddess eat a man through her vagina? You’re up to see that and gasp feeling as frightened as allured at the same time!
[SPOILERS: I cannot describe the show unless I give away some spoilers. You should also consider this show to be very mature. This is not a show for kids!]
It’s THORsday again! This means that we’re going to read comics! This week we’re going to explore all about Spider-Man: Miles Morales. He happens to have extra powers compared with Spidey. He has a problem: he doesn’t know how to balance his Superhero life with his normal life. Fortunately, his best friend and his dad are there to help. But, things look pretty grim at the moment.
For starters, he has a fan online: a young YouTuber. She has captured a video from a battle. Miles got his mask broken, and she could see that he’s brown. She instantly became a fan. Also because of representation grounds. However, Miles isn’t that happy about it.
Ten years before Spock and Kirk, we had Star Trek: Discovery! I just saw the trailer on Twitter. I’ve been reading some drama surrounding the cast, but I must say that the trailer looks brilliant. I can’t wait until fall to start the journey along with Star Trek: Discovery.
One of the things that got me euphoric is to see to female leading roles together. I just hope that the series is as brilliant as it promises. So, why are people complaining about it? I say that we must give it a go before we go berserk on it.
This week we’re going to explore a sweet comic by Ru Xu called NewsPrints. I found it diving into the shelves of the local comic book store. It tells the story of Blue. She’s an orphan who works as a newsboy. To do that she has to disguise herself as a guy. Since the comic book happens during the war time, it’s not surprising to see men and women doing different roles. Blue is a girl, so she should be selling cookies. However, she loves living and working at the Bugle, the only newspaper that does deliver the truth in town.
So, Blue’s job is crucial: she delivers a right paper that explains the truth to their readers. But, everything seems fine as long as she is a boy. But, what would happen if she were to tell the others that she’s a girl?
I saw Colossal’s trailer in the cinema, and then again on Youtube. I would have missed this movie completely since the marketing around it is quite weak. However, it seems like a huge hit. Anne Hathaway plays a girl who has a connection with a monster that is smashing Seoul. This is a weird cult movie that mixes Godzilla, Kaiju, Kong and Pacific Rim! How can I not go to the cinema and see it?
Nacho Vigalondo has created a multilayered film. It seems like you can read the movie in several different ways. We meet Gloria, a total loser who ends up crashing at a friends apartment. By chance, she discovers that she is connected to a hideous monster who is destroying Seoul. When she dances, the monsters does it too!
Yesterday I saw Guardians of the Galaxy vol.2, and now I want to see it again! Yes, it is that good. Although it is difficult to make better movies after a huge hit, Marvel made it again. If you loved the retro feeling from the first film, you’re going to adore this second installment of our favorite Superheroes. I laughed, but I also cried. Yes, the only thing that I will spoil for you is this one: take a tissue just in case.
[SPOILER ALERT: this review contains massive spoilers. Refrain from reading beyond this point if you want to be surprised when you hit the cinema!]
Yay! It’s THORsday again! It’s time to take a look at Marvel’s Runaways (Secret Wars x Battleworld). In this alternate reality, Von Doom has created a world where only the best are in the elite. And so, he has created a school where students train. Every year, there is a final exam they all must take in groups. But there’s a group of students who are in detention and who are going to get in trouble if they don’t sign up for the final exam.
Jubilee, Sanna, Pixie, Amadeus Cho, Delphyne, Skaar, Molly, Tandy, and Dagger are in detention for creating trouble. Bucky sent them there. He’s in charge of security. The school’s headmaster is Valeria (Von Doom’s daughter). As you can imagine, they end up cheating and signing up. But Doom is smart and knows they have cheated!
Have you seen the Defenders trailer yet!? Netflix’ Marvel’s new hit trailer has just hit the web, and it’s amazing. As I suspected, Iron Fist will be the kid in the group. But, how these damaged Superheroes can save the day? Will they kill each other first? Who are the Defenders anyway?
Netflix gave us Daredevil first. It has two seasons and a third one on the way. Charlie Cox is Daredevil, a troubled lawyer that kicks ass at night. He is blind, and yet he sees more than others do. However, he’s not perfect, and so he creates a lot of mistakes.
Then we have Jessica Jones. Netflix has given us a season of greatness. She is damaged and drinks too much. But she’s brilliant and very dangerous. She kicks ass and has no problem with being ruthless.
I’ve just seen The Dark Tower trailer, and there was something very familiar with it. But I couldn’t make just the connection. After watching it again, it hit me! Have you seen For a Few Dollars More? It’s a Spaghetti Wester movie starring Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef, Gian Maria Volontè, and Klaus Kinski. It might seem surprising, but there’s a connection between the films: a tune.
In For a Few Dollars More, a brutal criminal called “El Indio,” engages in gun duels by using a musical pocket watch. The tune is exactly the same used in The Dark Tower’s trailer. Both stories have a gunslinger as a central figure. Even though the stories are different, the trailer makes a brilliant point in remembering one of the best Eastwood’s Spaghetti Western movies.
I finally finished Leigh Bardugo’s Six of Crows [The Book Depository]! I must tell you something: it’s a masterpiece! Despite having a few time to read, I managed to finish it before I had in mind. This is so good, you don’t want to sleep at night because you need to know what happens next! No wonder I already started reading Crooked Kingdom [The Book Depository].
What can I tell you that you haven’t read elsewhere? This is more than Ocean’s Eleven and Game of Thrones combined! This is the epiphany of fantasy and suspense mixed. It’s been a very long time since I’ve got hooked in this way with a book!
[SPOILERS: be advised, there are some spoilers ahead. Don’t worry; there aren’t enough of them as to crush your will to read this book.]
